B.S.L.T. CLASSIC MEETING REPORT 28TH AUG 2011

On a grey and miserable day more akin to mid winter the inaugural B.S.L.T. Classic meeting took place.

The heats of the Classic were first up with winners and one fastest loser qualifying for the Classic Final. The qualifiers were Angus Stanners , TLJT. Graeme Lister , Kirkcaldy , Iskan Barskanmay , Jed AC Craig Grieve , TLJT, Wallace McGown , Sauchie and fastest loser from heat one was David Grieve , Hawick.

First final to be decided was the Youth/Junior 1500 metre and Jason McIntosh , Kelso kept up his excellent form , despite a 20 metre pull for winning at Morebattle , to take the first prize. Kobe Stevens Moorfoot chased Jason home for second place with Scarlet Yates , Jed Ac in third and backmarker Jacob Adkin , Moorfoot in fourth. Winning time was 4min 41.10sec.

A tremendous run from Stuart Somervail , Jed AC saw a thrilling 1500 metre Open finish, with Stuart holding off fast finishing backmarker Adam Craig , TLJT with Ged Smith , Hawick in third and Derek Scott , Hawick in fourth. Winning time was 4min 02.98sec.

The 150 metre Junior Final was decided next with Daniel Elliot , Hawick pulling clear of Angus Bryce , Morebattle and Ronan McKean , Hawick in the final metres to take the finishing tape in 19.61sec. Other finalists were Kazya Stevens , Moorfoot and Phillipa Robertson , Hawick. Unfortunately Bethany Wardhaugh had to withdraw due to injury.

Rorry Marshall , Jed AC was too strong for his fellow competitors in the 150 metre Youth Final winning in 16.64sec. James Park , TLJT came home second and Euan Pettigrew , Kelso in third. Other finalists were Robbie Yourston , TLJT , Mhairi Henderson , TLJT and Jasmin Tomlinson , Jed AC.

The 150 metre Open was made up of those who failed to qualify for the Classic final but an excellent race took place with a blanket finish. It was Bruce Scott , TLJT who claimed the first prize in 15.61sec from Lee Good fellow , TLJT in second and Dylan Ali , Hawick third other finalists were David McKay , Kelso , Darrin Scott , TLJT and Seb Harrison , Jed Ac.

And so to the Inaugural running of the B.S.L.T Classic and in 15.20sec and 150 metres it was all over. A storming run from Craig Grieve , TLJT took the tape from Angus Stanners , TLJT and Graeme Lister Kirkcaldy .
