A quite warm pleasant morning`s competition saw Scott Armstrong from Durham run a tremendous 400 metre to take the Junior race and Kyle Potts running on home ground swoop to victory in the 400 metre Youth race.This was followed by victories for Abbie Feeney in the 90 metre Confined to Jed Junior race and newcomer Craig Smith in the equivalent Youth race.>
Top Youth runner Josh Kerr, Edinburgh made his winning debut to the Borders Circuit running off Scratch in the 800 metre Youth with the watch stopping at 2min 22.16sec quite a run from a 13 year old.
Father of Scott Armstrong, Neil was not to be outshone by his offspring and held off determined challenges in the 70 metre Open winning in 8.12sec.
So we went into the afternoon meeting Nick Smith, Shaftsbury ran a quick 10.61sec for the 100 metre Borders Athletics Championship with Greg Turnbull , TLJT and Steven Charters , Dolphinton in the places.
The 800 metre Open went to Craig Robertson , Pitreavie in 1min 56.79sec Andrew Thompson , Jed AC took second place and Callum Whillans , Hawick third.
Ruardidh Britton , Moorfoot ran a determined race to claim victory in the Youth 1500 metre in 4min 31.88sec holding off his training partner Kobe Stevens in third place came Selkirk`s John McLean and back marker Marc Berry , TLJT took fourth place.
By this time the rain had started and the Jedforest Sprint was in full flow and after the third heat with spectacular lightening flashes all around it was decided wisely to take a break. After some 30 min the proceedings recommenced finishing off the Jedforest Sprint in somewhat damp conditions.
The final of the Junior 90 metre went to Calder McLean , Leithenburn in 11.64sec with Micheal Dennis , Edinburgh AC in second place and Eve Huxley , Innerleithen in third.
Following up from his victory in the Confined event in the morning Craig Smith found competition a bit tougher in the 90 metre Open Youth`s holding on in a photo finish in 10.10sec from Hawick`s Darcy Graham and Ryan Laidlaw , Innerleithen.
Paddy Jumelle , Corstorphine made a break for the tape on the last bend in the Open 400 metre and galloped home in 51.10sec , Dylan Ali , Hawick took second place and Ryan Trimby , Hawick third.
Craig Robertson , Pitreavie claimed his second victory of the afternoon in the 1500 metre Royal Mile in 4min 09.74sec sprinting away from local lad Stuart Somervail , Jed AC and Kelso`s Colin Welsh.
Bruce Scott , TLJT claimed the 90 metre Vets crown in 10.85sec from Tom Bradley , Edinburgh and John Paxton , Hawick.
Scott Armstrong , Durham followed up his morning victory to win the 200 metre Junior in 28.47sec holding off Micheal Dennis , Edinburgh AC and Fergus Rule , Leithenburn.
An excellent run from the backmark saw Ben Robbins , Edinburgh AC win the 200 metre Youth`s in 24.10sec , Darcy Graham , Hawick and Jordan Charters , Lasswade took the minor places.#p>
The 200 metre Open went to Graeme Armstrong , Edinburgh in 21.91sec just edging past long time leader Emily Douglas , Jed AC , Selkirk`s Geoff Keen took third place.
Craig Gillan running off Scratch won the 100 metre Invitation event in 11.54sec from Cameron Smith , Tullibody and James Parker , Hawick.
With everyone now totally soaked to the skin the crowd still raised a cheer for the finalists in the Jedforest Sprint and in a pulsating race outsider Connor Hedley , Ellington held his nerve the best and took the £3000 first prize from veteran Ross Weir , Hawick and Craig Grieve , TLJT.
