OXTON BORDER GAMES REPORT 2011.
On what turned out to the best weather of the season, to date, on a fast track with a following wind Oxton Border Games staged their second Games after their revival and a good sized crowd fully enjoyed the proceedings.
Rory Williams running for Chirnside was first to take the honours winning the 800 metre Youth/Juniors in 2min 02.58sec holding off Marshall Smith , Gala Harriers and Ruaridh Britton , Moorfoot.
Andrew Thompson , Jed AC came past long time leader Gordon Eland , Broughton in the final straight to claim victory in the 800 metre Open in 2min 00.47sec , Veteran Keith Redpath , Wishaw sneeked in to take the third place from Selkirk`s Greg Gibson.
Bethany Wardhaugh , Gala Harriers showed class when demolishing the field in the 90 metre Junior`s in the fast time of 11.25sec, Brodie Graham , Hawick took second place and Barrie McLean , Hawick third.
Darcy Graham , Hawick continued his season`s improvement with a quality run in the 90 metre Youth`s to take the first place in a fast 9.94sec aided by a strong breeze, Martha Douglas , Jed AC was second and Jasmin Tomlinson third.
Gary Law , Hawick running from the top mark in the 1600 metre Open was unchallenged and claimed victory in the 1600 metre Open in 4min 28.34sec ,a fast last lap gave Adam Craig , TLJT second spot and Keith Murray , Hawick held on for third place.
Ruaridh Britton , Moorfoot was an excellent winner of the Youth/Junior 1600metre race in 4min 47.42sec , Durham`s Joe Armstrong came through from the back mark to take second place and long time leader Craig Angus , Leithenburn held on for third place.
In a very close finish between Stephanie Common , TLJT and Emily Douglas , Jed AC in the 200 metre Open victory went to Stephanie in 21.96sec closely followed by fast finishing Dylan Ali , Hawick.
Scott Armstrong , Durham spotted an opening in the field in the finishing straight to claim victory in the 200 metre Junior`s in 28.22sec with Bethany Wardhaugh running from a pulled mark after her 90 metre victory in second place and Grant Goodfellow third.
Running from a pulled mark after his 90 metre Youth victory Darcy Graham , Hawick looked a class apart swooping past his rivals to win the 200 metre Youth`s in 23.81sec, Jasmin Tomlinson , Jed AC came second and Martha Douglas , Jed AC third.
The Vet`s 90 metre was a victory for Neil Armstrong , Durham in 10.35sec just taking the tape from David Grieve , Hawick and Bruce Scott , TLJT.
Main event of the afternoon the 110 metre Open gave us a blanket finish for the Judges to split, and it was Craig Grieve , TLJT who was announced the winner in 11.24sec just beating Iskan Barskanmay , Jed AC into second place and Ryan Trimby , Hawick into third.
