Goodness me the Scottish weather was well to the fore today at Hawick Border Games.
The first hour of the meeting was wet with the officials resorting to waterproofs and the need to protect the photo-finish technology from the rain.
Then all of a sudden it brightened up and we all ended up with the sun cream.
We had a great day of athletics and the main event provided drama of the first degree.
In the 110m Open Sprint athletes contesting for a first prize of £1000, Ben Lyall emerged as a strong favourite with by far the fastest heat time of the day. In fact after all the heats were completed it was difficult to see who would beat him.
After the cross ties Ben was still fastest up and still the bookies favourite to win.
Come the final all the runners started well and by half way Ben looked in control only to damage a hamstring 25m out, but he kept going and was only denied victory on the line by the strong finishing Scott Tindle with Brodie Cowan in third in a time of 11.85.
Wow what a race.
In the Leon Ali Memorial 200m, Natasha Turnbull held off Craig Smith and Katie Purves.
In the 800m Emma Brus held off her teammate Danielle Lockie.
The Youths 100m Championship provided a resounding success for Finn Douglas in a time of 12.00. He is a fine prospect for the future.
The 90m Youths A produced a victory for Lana Stanger from Charlie Rae and Finlay Douglas all three from Hawick.
In the 90m Youths B it was Evie Renwick who finished ahead off Grace McWhinnie and Eve Rathie.
A great day of athletics.
Here are the full results.
